Christmas Traditions

December 13, 2017

“Sad day! This is suppose to be a picture of a nativity scene. All of ours are still packed away with all of our Christmas decorations in storage. I went to the store to buy one and guess what, they don’t sell nativity scenes!!! I didn’t make it to a Christian store yet, and I wanted to take my own picture, not use one from the internet. So my mission for the season? You got it! Track down nativity scenes. I’ll post pics as I find them!!”

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only son”
John 1:14, NIV

I love Christmas, always have. The songs, the lights on the tree, the lights on the houses. I especially like the houses that are connected to the radio and as you drive by the music plays and the lights dance to the music! I also love the nativity, but with the hussle and bussle of Christmas and as fast as Christmas comes and goes, and with the world leaving out the real reason of Christmas, The birth of Jesus, The nativity gets left out and forgotten. We have several nativities, but they are all packed away. That’s one tradition I want to remember even as an empty nester. If I have to buy another nativity set I will! Praise you name Lord Jesus! May we never forget you!!

My Christmas prayer this year is, that I may see Gods Love in everything and everyone, no matter how rough or sad life gets.

Really,  talking to myself here, let’s face it, life is hard and overwhelming. If I look outside of myself, looking around I see hate, sadness, unmet needs, anger, fear. If I want to help others, how can I? What can I do that will make a difference?

But then I think of the birth of Jesus. What can a baby, a helpless baby do? Yet He, God, who came into this world small and helpless needed to be taken care of, nourished, fed, changed. He had to depend on others to grow and mature.

He was God! He could’ve had everything, anything, do anything. He chose to grow, learn, be obedient to His Heavenly Father. He chose the best!

Shouldn’t we learn from His example and choose the best as well? It’s amazing how a little baby can make you think. Make you grow up.

The nativity scene is so much more than a baby in a manger. The story has so much more meaning than we hear in the Christmas story. Do we listen? I personally have never thought of it like this before. I’ll never look at the baby Jesus the same again.

What does Christmas mean to you?

Please share your favorite Christmas tradition!

Pray for God to show you something different this year. I’d love to hear what it is, please share if you will!!
