“Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear.”
Ephesians 4:29 ASV

Today’s social media I saw something that really stuck in my mind. Can’t find it now, of course. It said we talk worse to ourselves than we do to others. Funny because I just gave myself a lashing this morning. I try not to. I’ve learned in the past several years that’s it’s not the right thing to do, but I blasted myself this morning. And twice or maybe three times today I read this post about speaking nice to ourselves. And then this verse of the day.
Typically we think about this verse in the context of the way we talk to others, or the foul language that may come out of our mouths. We may even think of verbal abuse.
But what about talking to ourselves? Our personal thoughts? Our self image? The one major thing that helped me stop complaining about the way I look, my face, my hair, my hands, was my daughter. Not so Spiritual, but a very powerful tool. My daughter looks quite a bit like me. In fact, some have mixed us up. She’s told constantly that she looks just like her mommy. She is beautiful! And I feel that I am not. But if I put myself down, I am putting her down, and I’m not going to do that! So God taught me through my daughter not to put myself down. He showed me myself as He sees me. Pretty cool Hugh?
He’s taught me that He made me the way I am and if I complain, I’m basically telling Him, God, that He messed up. I truely believe that everyone is made special and has a purpose in life. I believe God made Everyone the way they are. In fact, I’m more tolerable to others than I am myself, most of the time. I’m not as hard on myself as I use to be. But there are still days. And in the background I have nagging negative thoughts about myself. My counter? Praise! Praise and thanksgiving to our Holy God! Worship with K-LOVE music in the car. Worship with the beautiful nature God has blessed us with everywhere! Praise our Heavenly Father for making us! Making us unique the way we are! I praise God for you! Just the way you are!!!! Have a worshipful week!!
