Prayerful Attitude
July 28, 2018
“Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer each one.”
Colossians 4:5-6 ASV

This is not as easy as it sounds. Especially when you yourself have been hurt.
It is so easy to lash out when hurt. When our buttons are pressed. There are a few who have a gentle answer to everything. I’m not one of those to be blessed by such a true gift as that. And from what I’ve seen in my lifetime, not many of us are. And the very fact that God found it necessary to remind us in the Bible, several times, makes me believe that I’m not the only one that has this problem.
The answer? Yes, prayer! The moment I step away from a prayerful attitude I become vulnerable to hurtful feelings and angry attitudes. I’m not a very eloquent prayer by no means. And I forget to pray before meals at times. But that doesn’t mean I’m not in a prayerful attitude. At the same time, if I pray at all meals and pray the most eloquent prayer before I go to bed, that doesn’t necessarily mean I am in a prayerful attitude.
If I can explain what I’m trying to say, I guess it’s like Peter walking on the water. As long as his eyes were on Jesus and not on himself or his situation, he was able to walk on water. And I don’t think he realized what he was doing. As soon as he realized what he was doing and took his eyes off of Jesus he began to sink. I think maybe prayerful attitude is like that. If we keep our eyes on Jesus we don’t realize what we’re doing, we are walking in faith. Our buttons are pushed and we don’t even know it. But when we take our eyes off of Jesus and look at the one who’s pushing our buttons we get defensive, hurt and angry. We say and do things we shouldn’t. So this is why we not only need to be in a constant prayer attitude with our Heavenly Father, we need to pray for each other. Hugs and prayers your way!!
