“If anyone has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need but closes his eyes to his need — how can God’s love reside in him?”
1 John 3:17 HCSB

“Therefore, through Him let us continually offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips that confess His name. Don’t neglect to do what is good and to share, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.”
Hebrews 13:15-16 HCSB

Social media has changed our world, our society, our daily living. We live in an ever changing world. We may not live like the Jetsons or Star Trek. We may not be beaming up from one end of the earth to the other. Yet our world has drastically changed from 20, 30 years ago. A person can work, shop, eat, play, socialize, do anything in the privacy of their home. Without ever stepping foot out their door, ever.
One of the sayings that never gets old or changes with time is: “The grass is always greener on the other side.” I’m convinced that today more than ever before, this saying holds truth. Our social media creates a false picture. Don’t get me wrong, social media is a wonderful tool for many things. And I sure wouldn’t want to air my dirty Laundry, nor do I enjoy reading dirty laundry. Face it, we all have it. Every single person on earth has dirty laundry, everyone! And do we wear our dirty laundry? Not most of us. Lol We wash our laundry, and only wear the best we have. My point is in all of this, what we see on social media is not the whole picture. What we see is usually the best of what the “friend” wants us to see. I know that’s not always true, but for the most part it is.
What I think is important to remember is that we all have good things as well as the bad. If we compare ourself to what we see on Facebook we won’t live up to what God wants us to do. Of course it’s always been like that, even before social media. We need to step back from the world around us and pray, praising God for who He is and thanking Him for our blessings, one by one.
One of the devotions I’ve been reading is about giving from what you have, for God’s glory. It’s a reminder to count our blessings and then ask God how He wants us to use those blessings for others. For me, it’s my writing. I’m not saying I’m the best writer, nor am I saying I’m talented in writing. What I am saying is that I love to write. I’ve always loved to write. When I was a tween I would write notes to my school friends, just to write. Silly nonsense but still, writing. I even remember in grade school I wrote my own stories, short books. I don’t even remember what they were about, just that I really had fun writing them. Then when I reached high school, grammar classes! Yuck! My A’s for creative writing were the only reason I passed English. So, because of my fear of writing “correctly” I kept my writing to myself. With encouragement from my husband and constant nudging from God, I stepped out in faith. Small steps, but now I have this blog and a published book, and another in the process. Did you know that compassion has sponsors that donate money monthly to sponsored children but don’t write to them? Did you know that if you don’t have the financial means to sponsor a #compassion child, you can be a tag along sponsor that writes to them? The reason I’m sharing this, is because I’m using my love for writing to reach out to others. I hope and pray that anything, everything I write will help, encourage, bring the reader to Christ!
My prayer is that God will take my writing and use it like He took the jar of oil and the loaves of bread and the fish and multiply it for His Glory!
My prayers also include everyone of you reading this, that you know you are/will be a child of God through His son Jesus! Have questions? Want to talk? I do not have all the answers but I will listen and help find the answers!
Remember you do have blessings! Count them, thank God for them, ask God how you can share them for His Glory!
