“a fierce and heartless nation that shows no respect for the old and no pity for the young.”

What does the word respect mean?
Respecting somebody doesn’t mean we have to like somebody. At least that’s how I was brought up. Respect Presidents, Royalty, men, women and children. Respect nature and life. Respect people in general. So what does that word mean? As I looked it up I was surprised by the definitions I read. The word, respect, that I’m referring to is listed so far down the list in the dictionary, that I’m sure it’s vary rarely read. The word, respect that I’m referring to is a type of respect that makes a kinder world. If we respect the older generation, the leaders, the military and police and firefighters, think how our world would change. If kids respect their parents, teachers and ministers, think of the discipline problems solved. If people respect each others personal space and property, think how we could live without anxiety. That one simple word would turn a world of hate around. People would need to change their attitudes towards others, but that doesn’t mean opinions need to be changed. That doesn’t mean we have to agree with somebody if we respect them. Think of how the depression and hate and anger would drop. Respect wouldn’t make the world perfect, but it sure would help. How can we be a part of changing the disrespect and lack of respect that’s spiraling out of control?
Pray, ask our Holy Father to help us learn to respect others. We don’t have to like them to respect them. We don’t have to compromise our beliefs to respect others. We will need prayer to allow Gods strength and wisdom to work through us. We can be bold and non-compromising in a respectful way. It takes great strength to respect and love. It takes Gods strength. Another reason to be in prayer always.
