Nobody

Nobody

“For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.” Galatians 6:3

The song “Nobody” by Casting Crowns has been playing on the KLove internet station. This song touches my heart and inspired me for this week’s blog. The song makes me think of my life, my past, and my self-esteem. For as long as I can remember I would read the Bible, at first it was mostly the book of Revelation. But then as I became older and more interested and curious, I ventured out into some other books of the Bible. Then as a young adult, after accepting Jesus, Gods son as my savior, I was even more intrigued by what the Bible as Gods Word had to say.

To be honest, the Bible can be confusing. There are books, seminars, preachers, teachers, and blogs about what the Bible teaches, says, and about what it means. The problem is, who can you trust? There are so many false teachers in today’s world, satan himself knows the Bible and uses it for his own glory. I personally feel that the false teachers who seem like they know what they are teaching and sharing are the most dangerous of all. But there is a fair share of those that choose to challenge the Bible and tear it down as often as they can. These are more reasons for us to be in constant prayer with our Heavenly Father.

Another reason to pray when reading God’s word is that there are verses that seem to be contradicting. There are verses that are just too hard to accept and we choose to ignore.

For example:

What do we do about the verses that tell us our hearts are worse than filthy rags?

“We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.”

Isaiah 64:6 NLT

What about the verse that says, if we cannot hate our parents or children, we cannot be with God?

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:26

These verses can be depressing to me and do nothing to help my low self-esteem. Again, pray. Prayer keeps a focus on God’s Word. The Word that comes alive and tells us what God wants us to hear, to know.

If you’ve never experienced the Bible coming alive, go to our Heavenly Father and ask HIM to show you! It’s an Awesome experience! Because God’s Word IS Alive!

And ask for Wisdom and God Will Give it to you!

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives it generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5

To be perfectly honest, confusion still occupies my mind most of the time. I think it’s mostly the enemy trying to confuse me, making sure I’m useless to our Heavenly Father. When I read verses like the ones above, they can really mess me up. In fact, before I became a Christian, and as a new Christian, I was more on the legalistic side of things. I would think that if I did everything right, then maybe, maybe I’ll be okay with God. But if I messed up then, well forget it, God won’t have anything to do with me. But as I grew in the Lord, prayed and continued reading and listening to Gods word, I realized what these verses were saying. These verses are telling me that I cannot be OK with God on my own. HE wants me to give everything to HIM. To let HIM have ALL of me! These verses reinforce our need for Christ in our life. We need to give our ALL to HIM! He’ll take care of us!

I am NOBODY! HIM in me makes me SOMEBODY!
