Fruit of the Spirit: Faith
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Moving on to the next listed Fruit of the Spirit, Faith. This Fruit is talked about quite a bit in the religious realm, and mocked in the non-religious realm. To some “Faith” is an escape to reality. To some it’s a flippant way to give advise or explain the unknown. But to Gods children, who know the truth, it’s a reality that we sometimes struggle with. Faith is a gift! A gift of the Holy Spirit! So if Faith is a gift, why do we beat ourselves up when we lack in Faith? I mean, yes we need to accept the gift and let it work in us. But that’s just it, LET IT work in us!!! Not us work at the Faith! Yes Faith grows the more we use it. Or maybe, just maybe, and to clarify this is totally my personal opinion, maybe we should not try so hard at working at Faith and instead, pray for God…the Holy Spirit to fill us with Faith.
I know that seems like a foreign thought to some. And we’ve been taught to have Faith, HAVE Faith. But are we, humans, alone, capable of this “Faith”? In general, a person can have Faith in a person or thing. But as soon as that person or thing proves itself unfaithful our faith vanishes. And yes, our God will NEVER be unfaithful! NEVER! However, our perspective might tell us differently for we don’t see what God Knows. And, we’ve been pricked over and over by unfaithful people and things our entire life! We live in a broken world.
Many of us have heard and seen the illustration of Faith. Take a chair and sit on it. How many times have you simply taken a chair and sat down, with Faith that the chair will hold you and not collapse under you. I know a few people who have actually had chairs collapse under them, some were hurt badly while others had a good laugh. I’m sure that those few will not have faith in chairs any longer.
Recently a whole building collapsed. Just collapsed with people in it, with no warning, no storm or disaster. It JUST collapsed! The world around us is falling apart, as I write this and as you read this, the world is falling apart! It’s a mess! But God is Not! He NEVER lets us down! Even if we don’t understand. And that’s why we need to pray for the Holy Spirit to fill us with the gift of FAITH!
A question to dwell on…What are your thoughts about the rising anxiety in our world today? If we as children of God would accept this gift of Faith, don’t you think the anxiety will disappear for His children? I think, again my personal opinion, I think that if all of Gods children freely and fully accepted this one gift alone, that the world would be such a happier place to live in and others would want to know what we had!!
Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to fill us with Gods Faith.
A Faith beyond our understanding!
Real genuine Faith. Letting go, letting the Holy Spirit Fill Us. Let’s let go and let the Holy Spirit flow Geniuine Faith through us. Don’t try, don’t force, don’t pretend, just let.
