Not a Victim #12: Narcissism, it’s all around us

I’m almost afraid to write another blog about narcissistic personalities. Do you see it, or is it just me? It’s all around us. It’s a pandemic in itself. Although we don’t understand why God allows what He does, we need to know that He’s God, He knows all, we do not. As I look back on my life, I see how my life experiences are preparing me for what’s going on now, in our world, all around us. It’s sad but I don’t seem to be shocked anymore.

There are so many topics that can be mentioned here, but the one topic I want to touch on in this blog is about offending each other. It seems that if anybody says or does something that might be taken as offensive by someone is a very bad person. The thing is, we all say and do things that offend others, and most of us don’t even realize it. Please don’t misunderstand what I’m saying, I agree we should think of others and be as sensitive as we can. However, in my opinion, it is impossible to live our lives without offending somebody. In fact, the truth offends people. Should we then not share Gods truth?

The ironic twist to this is that the people who tend to make the biggest deal about offending people seem to be the biggest offenders. I’ve been noticing more narcissistic people who think they are beyond offending others.

This blog is going to the dark side. Let me reel it in a bit. I try to keep my blogs as positive as possible, and I don’t want people to think my life has been a miserable mess. In fact I live a rich and blessed life. Yes, as mentioned earlier, God uses all life’s experiences to mold us to who we are. He also provides us refuge, solace and grace. He has graciously blessed me with a loving, encouraging, supportive husband, along with family and friends that have blessed me beyond words. In fact, it was my family that encouraged me to write about what I thought were unique experiences. So now, I am encouraged to dig deeper into the subject and see that this narcissistic personality is in fact more relevant than I ever imagined. And before writing this blog, I had no idea narcissistic personalities were all around us.

Another thing that I am learning is that intimidation, control, false accusations, lies and deception are things that take our eyes off of God, who He is, and who we are. When we’re feeling attacked, afraid, inferior, wronged, and defeated, we tend to react rather than be proactive. Isn’t that a tactic of the enemy? This is yet another reason we need to be in prayer and in Gods word.

God loves us so much He gave His own Son for us. He gave an escape from death and doom. As my earlier posts explain, I’m not the most eloquent  pray-er and I’m not a super Christian. But that’s not what God is asking for. He wants us, and gave us a way to be with Him, because He knows we can’t do it alone.

I definitely don’t know all the answers, but I do have the Holy Spirit who lives in me that does! When I focus on that truth, I can stand up to any Narcissistic tactic. When we focus on Gods Word and who He is in us, the truth is revealed around us.

This subject of narcissistic behavior and all that goes with it is very tricky, and to sum it up in a few words is not only impossible, but dangerous.  Why would I say that, you might ask. Because in reality it’s a spiritual world we are fighting against, and we have no power against the spiritual. That is, we have no power on our own. The Holy Spirit who lives in us is more powerful than anything we can see or not see. If we quench the Holy Spirit, we are not allowing the Spirit to do His job.

So back to the world around us, it’s not surprising that we aren’t shocked anymore. The Bible tells us this is coming. We need to realize the invisible spiritual world is very real. And unless we arm ourselves with the word of God and prayer, we don’t have a chance. Our fear should be directed to God, and in that fear we can be saved from this world.

I would love to see your posts and comments.
