Broken Things

“because if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus as Lord, and shalt believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved:”

“Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭3:10-11‬ ‭ASV‬‬

I heard this song on the radio and it inspired  this prayer blog. The tune plays over and over in my mind.

“Broken things” Mathew West

It doesn’t have to be said that our world is full of sadness, fear, tragedy and hatred. One doesn’t even have to listen to the news to hear about the devastation.

We are all broken, and times like this we feel abandoned, rejected, scared. But, because of Christ we are empowered.

The world around us is broken for sure. But, with a bunch of broken people how can it be anything else?  I’ve missed a week of my prayer blog. I’ve been at a loss in what to write. With the devastation of all the disasters, both natural and man made, I’ve been hesitant to post anything.  I didn’t want to be insensitive or act like I know all the answers. My heart breaks and I feel so helpless. In no way do I have any answers except our Holy God.  I do know from experience and the Word that He is there, here, available for comfort, peace in the midst, wisdom, and refuge. We don’t understand, but we don’t have to. God has this. My question is not why, for we know why. The Bible answers that question. My question is, what do you want me to do God? What does God want you to do? What gift or talent does God want you to use, share, grow? It doesn’t have to be huge. It reminds me of the story, stone soup.

I don’t remember the exact details of the story, but here is the jist. A man came into a small town hungry, looking for something to eat. One by one gave him the same answer, we don’t have enough to feed our own. So he made a fire in the middle of the town and put a pot of water over it to boil. He found some nice large smooth stones. He cleaned them up and put them in the pot of boiling water. The people were curious and started asking questions. They wanted to know what he was making. He told them, stone soup. He proceeded to stir and taste, remarking to himself that the soup needed something else. One of the bystanders spoke up and said they had some potatoes. They added the potatoes to the boiling water. Another said he had some carrots. He added his carrots to the water. One by one each person added one thing that they had. When they were finished they had a very large pot of yummy soup. The old man took out the stones and served the soup to all. What do you have to give for Gods honor and glory?
