It’s Not About Us

“Therefore, my dear brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
1 Corinthians 15:58 HCSB

This scripture reaches out and comforts me. I’ve been questioning this very thing. I know that I’m far from what I should be. I question if anything I’ve done in my life has really made a positive difference. We don’t always see results, and sometimes the results we do see aren’t the ones we want to see. I’ve failed more often than I’ve triumphed. My intentions are many times, misunderstood. But then that leads to the questioning of self, the self doubt and self ridicule. It seems that we humans have a tendency to go either way, self doubt or self praise, from one extreme to the other.

Isn’t that what the enemy wants? How happy is the enemy with all this self talk, self thoughts, self pity? As long as we, Gods children, are thinking of how bad we are, or how good we are, we’re thinking about us, not God, not Gods will, but ours. Self doubt, self pity, and self gloating is furthering the enemies kingdom. How convenient! When you think about it, there’s not an easier way for the enemy to have control than to have Gods children think about themselves.

In the Garden of Eden the enemy says, “you can be wise”. In the wilderness, the enemy says, “you can have everything you see”, you can…you can…you can. The enemy takes our eyes off of our creator and onto ourselves and our desires. But with Jesus, we already have everything.

Let’s get the focus off of ourselves and onto God.

Let’s be about what God wants us to be.

He’ll give us what we need. After all, He owns everything!

The enemy says…

““No! You will not die,” the serpent said to the woman. “In fact, God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.””
Genesis 3:4-5 HCSB

“Then the tempter approached Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.””
Matthew 4:3 HCSB

“and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: He will give His angels orders concerning you, and they will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.””
Matthew 4:6 HCSB

“And he said to Him, “I will give You all these things if You will fall down and worship me.””
Matthew 4:9 HCSB

Jesus says…

“Then Jesus told him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only Him.””
Matthew 4:10 HCSB
