Keeping up the Hymer Traditions

See my previous travel blog, San Diego March Birthday Trip. Our travels a year apart.  We were in San Diego both times. A year ago it was just before the shutdown of the pandemic. This year it’s at the tail end of the pandemic.

Some places in San Diego were full of people just like the pandemic never happened. But this one day, as we made our way on a mission to find a particular store in Old Town San Diego, we were disappointed that everything was closed. If you want to visit open stores and museums in Old Town San Diego, Monday mornings are probably not the right time. But, as it happened, what a treasure we found this April day in 2021. Our quest, though in itself was void, gave us the unique opportunity to come across a hidden treasure. A new park, a collection of old homes saved and preserved. The tea house sits at the top of the hill with a cul-de-sac, the road paved with brick and the center filled with beautiful colorful floral plants and a tree, complete with a sitting area. Unfortunately, the tea house and all the museum homes were closed, but what an enjoyable treat. And being the only ones there, we were able to take a leisure, quiet neighborhood stroll. One of the homes had a secret path that led up a hill into the unknown growth. We didn’t dare to explore, but now as I look back, I regret that decision. Next time, I’m on a journey to explore the unknown.

Our Hymer signature getaways do have their perks. Less crowds and more adventures, unlikely adventures. Oh, and don’t forget the memories!

Here’s the web site to the tea house. www.coraltreeteahouse.com

The name of this hidden treasure is Heritage Park, A Victorian Village
Each house has a history and was saved and moved from a location in San Diego.

One more thing, on our way to our car in the parking lot, we saw a trolley…How fun would it be to take a tour of San Diego, CA on a trolley?

Please be sure to share your experience with us. We’d love to hear!
