The Fruit of the Spirit: Self Control

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.

As I’m writing this blog on the final spiritual gift, I find it very convenient that I just finished a blog post about how I gave in and lost control. See my post, Not A Victim Post #5 to understand what I’m referring to. God is speaking to us all the time. But are we listening?

Self control. Today, as I write this blog, I have a totally new perspective on this Fruit of the Spirit, Self Control.

Self control encamps many areas in our lives. From the way we respond to people to the way we treat our own bodies. Self control is not self control at all, but control given over to the Holy Spirit. I personally feel anything with ‘self’ connected is doomed for disaster. Not that we deprive our self, but that we are filled with the Holy Spirit.

Today’s world would want us to believe that giving control over to the Holy Spirit is damaging to us. The world would say God is taking away our freedoms, enslaving us against fun and happiness. When in fact, it’s quite the opposite. When being filled with the Spirit we are free and live life in abundance.

In our world today, as things get all confused and muddled, we forget that freedom costs. If we want to be free to be active and alive and enjoy life, we must get proper exercise, diet, and rest. By eating all the unhealthy foods we want, sitting in front of the tv and binge watching our favorite shows all the time, and staying up all hours of the night, we might be enjoying the moment, but it will catch up with us and enslave our health. Without good health, all the money and freedoms in the world will do us no good. I can state the same scenario in many different arenas.

The one single key? Our Heavenly Father who gave His Son Jesus for us so we can be free of Sin and be filled with the Holy Spirit. These gifts of the Spirit are free to us, Gods children. They are powerful gifts that we can rest on and depend on. They are gifts that we can not achieve fully and authenticity on our own. They are gifts to be treasured.

Without self control we find ourselves making a mess of relationships, Health, finances, freedoms and happiness. The list can go on and on.

Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to fill us with Gods Self Control!

A Self Control beyond our understanding!

Real genuine Self Control. Letting go, letting the Holy Spirit Fill Us. Let’s let go and let the Holy Spirit flow Geniuine Self Control through us. Don’t try, don’t force, don’t pretend, just let.
