The End Is Near!!

The End of 2022 that is.

Years ago as I watched the Jestsons and Lost in Space I thought 2023 was way out there, in more ways than one. The past couple of years have been a rollercoaster ride to say the least. Nobody needs to be into politics to see the craziness and to feel the squeeze! It doesn’t matter who you are, where you are from, what you believe, or what your status is in this world. We all feel it one way or another. In my devotions the other day I heard something that really stuck with me. I’ve started a devotion series that start in the book of Genesis, the beginning of the Bible. The beginning of creation. The beginning of mankind. The narrator of the devotion said this, “There is only one race…the human race”. (We did, after all, all come from Adam and Eve.)

It didn’t take long for the human race to experience hatred against each other, unfortunately. Read about Adam and Eve’s sons. The second generation of the human race already hated, enough to kill. That’s super sad, but it does give some insight into todays world.

Fast forward to the the birth of Jesus, Christmas. God sent His son to earth to show us Love. But what did we do? We killed Gods son. Yet, Jesus being God, could’ve flew off that cross and could’ve struck everyone dead on the spot. But, because He Loves us, he died freely for us so we could live.

Fast forward again to today. What a mess! Need I say more? But in this mess, there is still beauty. Sometimes we need to make more of an effort to see it, but it’s there! The beauty is all around us. Remember the 60’s and 70’s? If you are old enough you will, if not look in your history books, or google it. (That makes me feel super old.) Remember the quotes going around? “All you need is love!” and  “Make peace not war.” God is Love, and as corny as those quotes sound, Gods Love and Peace are real!

I have a challenge for you and myself. In the past I’ve chosen a word for the new year instead of a New Years resolution. The word I chose most was, “Trust”. This year I’m going to choose the word “Love”. That word might seem to be a simple word. But if it was so simple, why is our world in such a mess? The word “Love” has so much packed into it. We know God is Love. We know one of the spiritual gifts is Love. And we know that when Jesus was asked what the greatest of the 10 commandments were, his reply was; “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22‬:‭37‬-‭39‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

My chosen word for 2023 is “Love”
